Technology & Best Practices Identification and Dissemination

Since a decade ago, Ethiopia has been engaged in massive mega infrastructures development projects such as the GERD, wind power projects, railway and sugar plant projects, and others. Although, most of these projects are ongoing, overall, positive and encouraging results have been achieved in terms of motivating the public, raising hopes and aspiration of citizens. Notwithstanding these achievements, the development programs have not served as important sources of capacity building and technology transfer.

The Ethiopian construction industry's size, the nature of its operation, and its presence in every developmental activity make it an attractive area for the transfer, adaptation, and development of technologies consistent with the developmental goals of the nation. In order to alleviate the difficulties in the capacity building and technology transfer areas, ECPMI has launched the establishment of an Excellence Center which among others will create a capability to collect, evaluate, adapt and develop construction technologies appropriate to local conditions and disseminate these to users.

Besides establishing the Center of Excellence, though unparalleled to the existing technology gap and inefficiency in technology transfer the Institute has undertaken various technology and best practices identification and dissemination activities.

Besides the encouraging strides to adopt and implement BIM in Ethiopian Construction Industry; the institute has identified, evaluated and disseminated cost-efficient and environmentally friendly construction technologies in the areas of construction tools and machineries (2), materials (12), Software (5) and Process improvements (4). It has also developed local and international best practices and transferred them for potential applications in Ethiopian construction industry.
