Bim Implementation Framework

The roadmap has prescribed that increasing BIM adoption requires greater collaboration and that stakeholders be motivated and given the right capabilities. Industry stakeholders must understand how BIM benefits them, adds value rather than cost, and is the necessary first step towards industry digitalization. Adoption requires better teamwork through using integrated contracts, new forms of collaboration, and open data-sharing standards to bypass the limitations posed by proprietary software. It also requires helping workers develop new skills and changing behaviors to support new processes.

While focusing on the understated issues, the institute is working on developing BIM implementation framework that will help smoothen BIM adoption in the AEC industry.

  1. Making sure that a national strategy is developed for the adoption of integrated project environments in Ethiopia.
  2. Use pilot projects, monitored and evaluated to build a knowledge base especially in terms of productivity benefits and processes associated with the uptake of BIM and IPD.
  3. Build consensus on standard performance indicators and metrics to prove the business value of BIM and IPD in terms of project, business, and industry-wide productivity gains.
  4. Develop national standards to provide a framework for a nationally consistent approach for uptake that reduces the macro-economic burden of adoption and increases productivity with the scope covering architectural, structural, civil engineering, and MEP BIM models in stages of conceptual, preliminary design, detailed design, construction, and as-built;
  5. Engagement with the concerned bodies to include BIM to the Ethiopian Engineering education curriculum.
