ECPMI second round Training on Building Information Modeling (BIM)

This round of BIM training package includes the Architectural and Project management aspects of the training package, with more coming soon.

ECPMI, conducted a twenty days intensive course, starting from September 21, 2020, which cover the Architectural and Project Management of the BIM training package. Through structured, practical training, the program aimed at practitioners, demonstrating work experience on the sector, which includes leaders, Civil Engineers, Architects and other construction professionals with an essential background for the training. The course has been run by ECPMI leading BIM trainer with the aim of introducing the technology among other endeavors by building the capacity of the sector professional.

ECPMI strive in its mission of improving the competitiveness of construction projects, and one of the key to achieving this mission is to facilitate the transfer of technology and the use of the technology in the construction industry of the country. “The realization of a construction industry where integrated delivery of projects prevails is one of the strategic goals set out in the FDRE construction industry development policy (CIDP). The policy document has also laid down the need to enhance construction productivity by way of utilizing appropriate technologies acquired in the most economical way through consistent and speedy imitation from foreign countries.”

To this intent and cognizant of the potential benefits associated with BIM technology, GPT II has spelt out the need to pilot and appraise the applicability of BIM to the Ethiopian construction industry. Accordingly, the institute has been undertaking various activities to introduce building information modeling technology in the country since 2009 and is currently providing the second round practical training to build the capacity of the sector.

And when conducting the training, it is believed that by developing legal frameworks it will enable BIM technology to operate in Ethiopia's construction industry, monitor its implementation and build the capacity of actors in the sector. And also ECPMI envision to see BIM as an industry standard for the implementation of building projects worth more than 25omiilion ETB by 2025 and an AEC industry with “Typical Practice Level” on BIM/VDC score rating system by 2025.
