Warm Greetings! This is Asmerom Tadesse Beyene, Director General of the Ethiopian Construction Project Management Institute.

Ethiopia has long noted the importance of taking measures to improve the performance of the construction industry. The government has been working hard on institutions and human resources skills development in the construction sector alongside its engagement in massive infrastructure development and the construction sector. Nonetheless, the impacts of these efforts are less sustained and the performance of construction contracts delivery is yet far from desired standards of delivery or industry practice. Moreover, Ethiopia has not achieved the expected socio-economic objectives nor harnessed the technological development potential from the massive investment despite the size and involvement of multi-national construction firms which are conducive for the transfer, adaptation and development of technologies consistent with the developmental goals of the nation.

Cognizant of the existing limitation of the construction industry and in order to address these challenges sustainably; the Ministry of Urban Development and Construction (MUDC) has recently issued 10 years perspective and 5 years National development Plans that among others underscore the need for deliberate, well-managed and continuous construction industry development efforts. In accordance to these plans, Besides the institute’s original mandates of building the national construction project management capacity and providing research-based policy guidance to the construction sector; the national plans have tasked ECPMI to champion construction industry development while focusing on built environment Professionals, Contractors and Consultants, construction technology and project management as well as conjugative responsibilities on the formulation and adoption of procedures and practices for the development of a conducive operating environment for the construction industry.

We at the ECPMI will exert our utmost efforts to answer the needs of the times in promoting performance and competitiveness thereby enable the construction industry to play its role in national development.

As enshrined in its Quality Policy, ECPMI believes the realization of the construction industry competitiveness relies on integration and close collaboration of stakeholders, prevalence of knowledge-led practices and full engagement of qualified professionals and technicians.

ECPMI will strive to optimize the contribution of the construction industry through pursuing deliberate, well-managed and continuous construction industry development efforts. Your continued interest and support will be greatly appreciated.
